Organic steam weeding is an organic and sustainable way to kill, remove and manage invasive weed species. Organic steam weeding is an alternative to more conventional ways of managing weeds.
How does organic steam weeding work?
A tank of water is heated to 140°C and sprayed onto targeted weeds from a pressurised hose. The extremely hot water makes contact with the weed's foliage, enters the cell structure and cooks the plant by dehydration as it attempts seek moisture rapidly from the root. Steam weeding works best on soft annual and perrenial weed species and has very little impact on the soil. In some cases it can benefit the soil as the dead weeds break down and add nutrient. Steam weeding is best done in autumn and spring, as soon as possible after germination.
