Ballarat Sound Mound
Revegetation on the Western Freeway
After the construction of a 50m tall, 150m long sound mound between new housing in the north of Ballarat and the Western Freeway, we were tasked with preventing erosion and revegetating the area. We laid around 2km of jute matting which was then covered with a thick layer of straw mulch using a hydroseeder. The mound was then planted out with a mix of endemic plant species such as acacia, eucalyptus, bursaria, allocasuarina, bankisa, lomandra and poa. Most of these plants were guarded with sustainable cardboard guards and will be protected through an ongoing rabbit management program.
